The scientist in charge, prof. dr. Dirk Geeraerts, is professor of linguistics at the University of Leuven. He founded the research group Quantitative Lexicology and Variational Linguistics at the turn of the millennium. As the founder of the journal Cognitive Linguistics, he played an important role in the international expansion of Cognitive Linguistics. He is the editor, with Hubert Cuyckens, of The Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Linguistics. Since 2005, he is managing editor of Mouton de Gruyter's Cognitive Linguistics Research series. The project coordinator and main researcher is dr. Weiwei Zhang. Her research interests lie in the fields of Cognitive Linguistics and Corpus Linguistics in general. In her PhD, which was supervised by Dirk Geeraerts and Dirk Speelman, she studied variation in metonymy from cross-linguistics, historical and lectal perspectives. Before taking up a postdoctoral position at KU Leuven, she worked as an associate professor at the Institute of Linguistics, Shanghai International Studies University. Being awarded a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships (H2020-MSCA-IF) by the European Commission, she rejoined QLVL in September 2018. Her personal website can be found here.
