Communication is critical to the success of our class! You need answers to your questions in a timely manner to do your best on assignments and meet deadlines. Don't hesitate to contact me if you can't find the answer to your question in our class syllabus, postings, or announcements. The best way to contact me is to either send an email to my campus email address seegersa@yosemite.edu or leave me a voicemail at my office phone (209) 588-5275. I will do my best to respond within 24 hours on weekdays. I may be out of cell range over the weekends but feel free to try me anyway. Just because our class is online does not limit our ability to meet in person. I am happy to schedule face to face, video/Zoom, or phone appointments with you throughout the course.
Plan out your weekly schedule to allow time to work on our course. Expect to fully participate in each of our in person meetings. We will spend our time actively engaged with our course material.
If you need to miss a class please let me know before the class meeting begins. If during the course of our semester together you do not participate for two weeks I will drop you from the course unless I have heard from you. If you’re having difficulty, communication is the key!
Artificial Intelligence/AI
Use of artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT or other tools is on the rise! I expect that all the work you submit in this class will be your own. Turning in assignments that were created by AI will not further your learning and will not be given credit. If you use AI as a resource you need to clearly identify that to avoid plagiarism (presenting work that you did not create as though it were your own). If you need help with an assignment, I highly recommend working with one of our tutors in the Academic Achievement Center (AAC). Tutoring is free and info about how to access it can be found on the resources area of this page. I am also available to help you.
Click on the "Grades" button in your class menu (found on the left-hand side of the screen) to access scores and specific comments about assignments. Please be sure to read the comments I provide for each assignment. These will go a long way to helping you know how to be successful with future assignments. Your scores may be accessed at any time during the semester. Grades for all assignments will be based on the accuracy, clarity, and appropriateness of the work completed using the rubrics provided. Grades are calculated from the points that you earn, and will be assigned on a traditional percentage scale (see the grading scale section on the grades page). I will be checking for postings and messages in our classroom at least three times during the week. My goal is that grades for assignments will be posted one week after the assignment was due but late work may wait longer.
Late Work
Late work will be accepted for credit until the week before the course ends. Please contact me immediately if you think you will have to turn work in late. Discussions cannot be turned in late since each discussion topic effectively ends when the discussion period ends (every two weeks).
Columbia College is committed to providing access and inclusion for all persons with disabilities. Students with verified disabilities who are registered with Columbia College’s Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS) who need specific access in this course, such as accommodations, should contact the instructor early in the semester so that accommodations may be implemented as soon as possible. Students can connect with Disabled Students Programs and Services (DSPS), located in upper Manzanita or call 209-588-5130 for an appointment with the DSPS Coordinator/Counselor. Through DSPS, course Accessibility Forms, the Academic Accommodation Plan (AAP) and Letter of Accommodation (LOA) may be created and brought or sent to instructors. This process informs instructors of potential access and accommodations that are reasonable. This syllabus is available in alternate formats upon request.
