A new planning application has been submitted for a 400sqm convenience store on the Barry Road frontage. The store will be located between the affordable homes and Barry Road and adjacent to the replacement Chief Trading Post.
The proposed 'Sainsbury's Local' will be single storey, with a pitched roof with brick and glazed elevations. It will be smaller in size than the consented building.

Materials
The facade of the proposed store will be a grey-coloured brick to match the new houses on the adjoining phase with timber cladding to complement the replacement Chief Trading Post building. A simple single-pitched gable roof design will mimic the glasshouse that previously occupied the site.

Access and Parking
The site is in an accessible location with Barry Road forming part of the local bus network. The new mixed-use development has already resulted in various highway improvement works in the vicinity, including new bus stops, a pedestrian crossing, and traffic calming measures.
The site also benefits from being close to the Bristol & Bath Railway Path (part of the National Cycle Network), a valuable commuting and recreational corridor for pedestrians and cyclists.
Vehicles will access the site from Barry Road and on-site car parking will be provided for 17 cars as well as 6 cycle spaces, which will meet planning and operational requirements.
Customer use and traffic is expected to be spread throughout the day and all servicing and deliveries will be contained on site.

2 accessible parking bays
2 EV charging & parking bays
3 Sheffield bike stands providing parking for 6 bikes

Landscaping
Native species of hedgerow, with trees and a new wall will form the boundary between the store and Barry Road. On the southern boundary, at the rear of the store, timber fencing will match the rear boundary with the neighbouring houses. About 14 new trees will be planted on the boundaries including Acer, Crab Apple and Ornamental Pear trees.
