Program Description: The Chicago Occupational and Environmental Medical Society presents these lectures, which provide updates on current topics in occupational and environmental health. The curriculum is designed for occupational and environmental health professionals, including occupational physicians and nurses, advanced practice nurses and other nursing professionals, physician assistants, and industrial hygienists. It also meets the needs of primary care providers and others engaged in practice and research, including other physicians (family medicine practitioners, internists, emergency medicine specialists), policymakers, and medical-legal practitioners. This event is co-sponsored by the Central States Occupational and Environmental Medicine Association and the UIC Great Lakes Center for Occupational Health and Safety.
OBJECTIVES
Attendees completing this course will be able to:
Identify potential health risks associated with exposure to magnetic fields, including their biological effects and epidemiological associations with diseases.
Learn to develop and implement effective occupational health surveillance systems for identifying high-risk medical conditions among employees exposed to magnetic fields.
Describe the role of neuropsychology in identifying key indicators of brain injury and psychological factors that affect determining fitness for duty, including stress responses, behavioral health conditions, and brain injuries that may impair performance in safety-sensitive occupations.
Address typical recovery trajectories following brain injury and identify factors that can complicate/prolong recovery.
Formulate appropriate intervention plans based on evaluation outcomes, addressing both immediate needs and long-term neurocognitive and psychological support for employees.
Explore various career pathways within occupational medicine, understanding the skills and qualifications needed for advancement in this field.
Learn strategies for continuous professional development, including networking, mentorship opportunities, and staying current with industry trends and research.
