Welcome to CHI DOWN UNDER 2020!

CHI DOWN UNDER is a local virtual event for Australia and New Zealand, in lieu of CHI 2020. This informal event will be held on 21-22 May 2020, and will provide an opportunity for students and other researchers to present their accepted papers and to socialise with the local CHI community.

Please Join Us

There are an astonishing 53 accepted CHI papers that have one or more authors with Australia or New Zealand affiliation! Authors of these papers are invited to present their work. All members of the CHI community are welcome to attend.

Virtually attending the conference

Chi Down Under is a fully virtual event. Paper sessions will be on Zoom, Late Breaking Work (Posters) will be on Mozilla Hub which offers a much more convivial way to discuss ideas and current research.

Before joining CHI Down Under sessions, we encourage attendees to read through the following session etiquette:

  • When signing in to Zoom sessions, please use your (real) first and last name (to help us keep out Zoom-Bombers)

  • Please keep your camera on when possible to increase overall engagement

  • Please keep discussion considerate and respectful

  • During all sessions, questions and general discussion may be posted at any time in the Zoom chat window. Keep it lively!

  • SVs will collect questions and pass these on to the session chair

  • Keynote and panel sessions will be recorded: If attendees wish to ask a question anonymously, they can send it privately to the SV. SVs can be identified by their Zoom background

  • Attendee microphones will be kept on mute during presentations

  • During Q&A, if the chair selects to ask your question, you will be unmuted and invited to ask it

  • When asking a question please begin by stating your name and affiliation

  • Attendees may also try to get chair’s attention during Q&A by raising their hand (by waving on screen or using Zoom participant raise hand feature)

  • We're sorry if we don't have time to get to all questions

Registration for attendees

Registration is free here. Registrees will receive links, instructions and schedule information by email prior to the event.

Presentation Format

As official paper presentations will be available from ACM, this event is aimed at providing a venue for LIVE presentations. Presentation times will be shortened to allow for a single-track event. Presentations will be hosted using Zoom video conference sessions, with an open forum for discussion on Slack. Details and instructions will be sent out to presenters before the event.
