Course Descriptions: This course is the foundation for cadets interested in receiving a private pilot’s license. Upon completion of this course the cadet will be prepared to take and pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) written examination. The course contains complete and concise explanations of the fundamental concepts and ideas that every private pilot needs to know. The flight simulator is used in this course.

- Mondays or Tuesdays

Grades for this course shall be based upon the following:

Assessments = 50% (Tests, Quizzes, Uniform Inspections, proper wear of the uniform, program attitude, class participation, group interaction and participation during physical fitness training days essays, projects, presentations, journals)

Class work = 40% (Leadership Lab, Military bearing, attendance, military courtesies, program attitude, class participation, group interaction and participation during physical fitness training days)

Home work = 10% (Assignments given for completion outside of class for practice or preparation for instruction, i.e., written assignments, portfolios)
Late Assignments

Work that is turned in late (without an extension being granted) will receive an 10% reduction in grade for the first day it is late and a 10% reduction for everyday thereafter to a minimum grade of a 50% for work turned in within 1 week of the due date.

Health & Wellness
- Wednesdays are Physical Training (PT) days
- 50% of this day’s grade is wearing the issued PT uniform

Regular class attendance, good conduct, punctuality and class preparation are important elements of this class. Our grading policy is as follows:

90 - 100 = A

80 - 89 = B

70 - 79 = C

60 - 69 = D

59 and below = E

Student is afforded ONE opportunity to improve a score on an assessment. Homework and classwork are not eligible for reassessment. (Per 5121.3) Reteaching/reassessment may occur during class or outside class time.
Once the graded assessment is returned, the student has

up to 5 school days to request reteaching and reassessment by contacting the teacher directly or email

Returning Student Work
- All student work will be graded and returned to students within 10 school days, with the exception of large assessments such as tests or projects. Students will be provided with a timeline if an assignment will take longer than ten days to grade.

- Late work will be graded within two weeks, and not immediately upon submission.
Good Faith Efforts
- Teachers shall assign a minimum grade of 50% to assignments or assessments for which the student completed the entire assignment and made a good faith effort. Good faith effort is evidenced by the student displaying Administrative Procedure 5121.3 3 Prince George’s County Public Schools persistence, striving for accuracy, time on task, and/or trying an alternative method to solve a problem (which may not be accurate). It is also a display of thinking as a student works to sort through ideas, apply context or figure out how to solve problems. If a student does no work on an assignment, the teacher shall assign a grade of zero.
