Chestershire Farms LLC was founded as a family homestead in 1999 and officially became an LLC in 2002. Originally established as a small boarding facility, our farm has evolved over the years to include breeding, training, lessons, and selling Warmblood sport horses, as well as breeding German Shepherds.
Today, we have embraced a more tranquil and intimate environment, focusing on the enjoyment of our horses, dogs, chickens, gardening, and, most importantly, family. While we have scaled back our operations, we continue to offer a limited number of boarding opportunities. Our goal is to provide a peaceful, supportive setting where horse owners can tailor a program that best suits their individual needs.
The owner has worked in the education field since 2014 for both public and private schools as a substitute teacher and paraeducator and is pursuing a post-graduate degree in special education. Previously, has coached varsity cheerleading and continues to teach riding students of all ages while working as a Real Estate agent in the surrounding area and is available for hobby farm consultation.
At Chestershire Farms, we value a positive and welcoming atmosphere. We simply ask that you leave the stress behind and enjoy your time with us!
Kathryn Judge is a lifelong entrepreneur, educator, and horsewoman based in Manchester, Michigan. Raised in Hartland, she graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a B.S. in Interpretation Performance, Writing, Communications, and English Language and Literature. Kathryn has built a diverse career that blends real estate, education, animal care, and equestrian life with a deep appreciation for nature and self-sufficiency.
In 1999, she and her family founded their farm, a private equestrian homestead that became an LLC in 2002. Originally a small boarding facility, the farm grew to include Warmblood sport horse breeding, training, lessons, and sales, along with German Shepherd breeding. Today, the farm embraces a slower pace, offering limited horse boarding in a tranquil, personalized setting focused on horses, family, and land stewardship.
Kathryn’s passion for animals extends beyond the barn. She is a trained veterinary assistant/tech, rehabilitated raptors and rescued cats/dogs/horses, owned/owns a pet sitting business, and continues to board select animals at her farm. Her deep respect for animal well-being shines through in every aspect of her care and service.
Kathryn’s farm life is shared with her son, who plays a vital role in the day to day operations of the farm. Sharing responsibilities in garden care/creation/maintenance, animal care, building and creating spaces/coops/fencing and maintaining them, and also vehicle and equipment maintenance/repairs. Together, they continue to build a peaceful, self-sustaining homestead where family, animals, and land thrive in balance.
Kathryn's love for the land also includes a strong interest in gardening, particularly biodynamic and naturalized gardens, pollinator-friendly spaces, and raising chickens. She enjoys experimenting with cooking seasonal, homegrown ingredients, canning fresh fruits and vegetables, and finding joy in a lifestyle rooted in simplicity, sustainability, and harmony with nature.
At the farm, they use a blend of composted horse and chicken manure along with composted kitchen scraps to naturally enrich our garden soil. The horse manure, mixed with straw bedding, adds organic matter that improves soil texture and drainage, while the nutrient-rich chicken manure boosts nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium levels for strong plant growth. They also collect fruit and vegetable peels, eggshells, coffee grounds, and other compostable kitchen scraps, adding them to the compost piles. These materials break down over time with regular turning, creating a rich, dark compost full of beneficial microbes. Once fully decomposed, they work this compost into the garden beds to create fertile, living soil that nourishes the crops season after season—without the need for synthetic fertilizers. This sustainable cycle keeps the animals, gardens, and household waste working together in harmony.
Alongside farm life, Kathryn previously managed the Michigan office of an international tour security firm and oversaw her family’s real estate investments. In 2015, she became a licensed Realtor, using her hands-on experience in renovation, staging, and rural property ownership to help clients confidently buy and sell homes, farms, and land across Southeast Michigan.
Since 2014, Kathryn has worked in both public and private schools as a substitute teacher and paraeducator in Ann Arbor, Manchester, and Chelsea, and is currently pursuing a post-graduate degree in special education. She continues to teach riding lessons, consult on hobby farms, and stay involved in her local community.
Her community service includes coaching varsity cheerleading, supporting local booster clubs, and serving as Chairperson previously for her brokerage’s Children’s Free Care Fund fundraiser, benefiting families receiving care at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. Kathryn finds her greatest fulfillment in giving back and creating spaces—indoors and out—where people, animals, and families can thrive.
At the heart of everything she does is a commitment to nurturing growth, whether she’s in the classroom, on the farm, or guiding a client through their next big move.
