OVERVIEW
ChessNivora ("ChessNivora", "we", "us", or "our") is a browser extension that provides chess analysis, coaching, puzzle-training, visual guidance, and computer-practice features on Chess.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension processes, why it is needed, where it is processed, when it is shared, and the choices available to users.
By using ChessNivora, you acknowledge the practices described in this Privacy Policy. Chess.com, Stripe, Cloudflare, Discord, and other third-party services have their own terms and privacy policies.
1. INFORMATION PROCESSED ON YOUR DEVICE
Website and chessboard content
To provide its chess features, ChessNivora reads the Chess.com page on which it is running. This can include the displayed chessboard position, piece locations, move information, game or puzzle state, board orientation, and the page elements required to display and operate the ChessNivora interface.
This information is processed locally on the user's device by the extension and its packaged Stockfish chess engine. ChessNivora does not send chessboard positions, game moves, Chess.com page content, or general browsing history to the ChessNivora account service, Cloudflare, or Stripe.
Preferences and interface data
ChessNivora uses Chrome's local extension storage to remember user-controlled preferences and interface settings, which may include:
• selected chess mode and playing strength;
• AUTO Mode state and timing preference;
• move-arrow visibility and colour;
• panel size and position; and
• other settings required to restore the user's chosen experience.
These settings remain in the user's Chrome profile until changed, removed through Chrome, or deleted when the extension is uninstalled.
2. ACCOUNT AND AUTHENTICATION INFORMATION
Users who choose to create or use a ChessNivora account may provide or generate the following information:
• a ChessNivora username;
• account and session metadata;
• a ChessNivora account identifier;
• independently salted PBKDF2-derived password or recovery-PIN proofs;
• a randomly generated device credential used to authenticate the device to the ChessNivora account service; and
• Premium subscription status, plan, expiry or renewal information, cancellation status, and the time subscription access was last verified.
Raw passwords and recovery PINs are processed locally to create cryptographic proofs. The extension does not store or send raw passwords or raw recovery PINs.
A username is personally identifiable information for Chrome Web Store disclosure purposes. Cryptographic proofs and device credentials are authentication information. Premium status and related subscription details are financial or payment information, although the extension never receives payment-card details.
3. INFORMATION SENT TO THE CHESSNIVORA ACCOUNT SERVICE
When a user creates, signs in to, recovers, secures, or updates a ChessNivora account, or checks Premium access, the extension communicates over HTTPS with:

Depending on the requested action, the extension may send a ChessNivora username, account identifier, randomly generated device credential, and PBKDF2-derived password or recovery-PIN proof. The service may return account identifiers, account status, recovery status, PIN-enrolment status, and subscription-verification information. The extension may also perform a limited service-availability health check.
The ChessNivora account service does not receive chessboard positions, game moves, Chess.com page content, or general browsing history from the extension.
Like other internet services, the hosting provider may process technical connection information, such as an IP address, request time, and security or error information, to deliver and protect the service. ChessNivora does not use this technical information for advertising or user profiling.
4. PAYMENTS AND SUBSCRIPTIONS
Selecting the ChessNivora Premium purchase option opens a Stripe-hosted checkout page. Payment details, including card information and billing information entered on that page, are provided directly to Stripe and are governed by Stripe's privacy policy and terms. ChessNivora's browser extension does not receive or store payment-card numbers.
ChessNivora uses limited subscription information, such as whether a subscription is active, the relevant plan, current-period end time, and cancellation status, solely to provide and manage Premium access.
5. HOW INFORMATION IS USED
ChessNivora uses information only when necessary to:
• display and operate the extension on supported Chess.com pages;
• analyse chess positions locally and provide requested chess-training features;
• save user preferences;
• create, authenticate, recover, and secure ChessNivora accounts;
• verify and provide Premium subscription access;
• maintain service security, prevent abuse, and diagnose technical failures;
• respond to user support or privacy requests; and
• comply with applicable legal obligations.
ChessNivora does not include third-party advertising, behavioural analytics, or telemetry in the extension package.
6. DATA SHARING AND SERVICE PROVIDERS
ChessNivora does not sell user data.
Information is disclosed only as necessary for the purposes described in this Policy:
• Cloudflare: The ChessNivora account service uses a Cloudflare Workers address. Cloudflare may process account requests and technical connection data as a hosting and security provider.
• Stripe: Stripe processes checkout, payment, and subscription information. The extension receives only the limited subscription state needed to determine Premium access.
• Discord: If a user voluntarily contacts the ChessNivora support community through Discord, Discord processes the information the user chooses to provide under Discord's own privacy policy.
• Legal and security disclosures: Information may be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce rights, protect users, investigate fraud or abuse, or protect the security of ChessNivora and its services.
Chess.com is a separate service. ChessNivora operates on supported Chess.com pages, but the extension does not send locally processed board positions or game moves to the ChessNivora account service, Cloudflare, or Stripe. Chess.com's own terms, privacy policy, and fair-play rules continue to apply.
7. LIMITED-USE COMMITMENTS
ChessNivora's use of user data is limited to providing and improving its clearly described chess-training, account, security, support, and subscription features.
ChessNivora:
• does not sell user data;
• does not use or transfer user data for purposes unrelated to the extension's single purpose;
• does not use user data for personalised advertising, retargeting, or interest-based advertising;
• does not use or transfer user data to determine creditworthiness or for lending purposes; and
• does not permit humans to read user data except when the user gives consent for support, when access is necessary for security or abuse investigation, when required by law, or when data has been aggregated and anonymised for permitted internal operations.
8. RETENTION AND DELETION
Local extension data remains in Chrome until the user changes or removes it, clears the extension's storage, removes the local account from the browser, or uninstalls ChessNivora.
Removing an account from the extension removes the relevant account information from that browser. It does not automatically cancel a Stripe subscription or delete records held by the ChessNivora account service, Cloudflare, Stripe, Discord, or Chess.com.
Remote account and subscription-related information may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the account and subscription features, maintain security, resolve disputes, comply with legal obligations, and enforce applicable agreements. Users may submit a request concerning access, correction, or deletion of data held by the ChessNivora account service through the support channel listed below. Requests may be subject to identity verification and applicable legal or security retention requirements.
9. SECURITY
ChessNivora uses safeguards designed to protect information, including HTTPS for account-service communications, Chrome extension storage for local records, cryptographically random device credentials, and PBKDF2 with SHA-256 for password and recovery-PIN proofs.
No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, and ChessNivora cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. USER CHOICES
Users may:
• use the extension's available local chess features without providing payment-card information to the extension;
• change saved extension preferences;
• remove locally stored account information through the extension where available;
• clear extension data or uninstall ChessNivora through Chrome;
• manage or cancel payment arrangements through Stripe; and
• contact ChessNivora regarding privacy or account-service data.
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
ChessNivora may update this Privacy Policy when its features, service providers, or data practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will identify the latest revision. Material changes will be disclosed as required before the changed data practice is introduced.
