The Wellington Footlights Society is delighted to announce the New Zealand premiere of If/Then by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal). This fascinating, ambitious and original new musical explores what we face at the intersection of choice and chance, painting a deeply moving portrait of the lives that we lead and the lives that we might have led.

City planner Elizabeth finds herself at a crossroads when she moves back to New York to restart her life after 12 years away from her beloved city. When her careful plans collide with the whims of fate, Elizabeth's life splits into two parallel paths.

A contemporary Broadway musical with a stunning score and unforgettable songs, If/Then celebrates the power of great storytelling.

One of Wellington’s favourite performers takes on the whole of Mozart’s Don Giovanni for a night of lust, murder, and revenge. This is the return season after selling out at BATS Theatre in March.

The Bone Thief is the latest musical by the prolific Red Scare Theatre Company (nominated for Most Promising Newcomer, The Wellington Theatre Awards 2017).

The Bone Thief reunites the founders of Red Scare, Cassandra Tse and Bruno Terpstra as writer and composer on a rock fairytale with a streak of horror running through it. The Bone Thief takes place in an old ex-mining town where a monster preys on local children. Young Aletta (Kiya Basabas) lives a life of privilege, but a friendship with an orphan boy (Devon Neiman) and a love of stories leads her on a hunt for the monster.

After their critically acclaimed debut production of Don Giovanni in 2016 and The Marriage of Figaro in 2017, Eternity Opera is returning with a concert performance of Monteverdi’s 1607 opera Orfeo.

Based on the Greek legend of Orpheus, this opera tells the story of Orpheo’s descent to the underworld and his fruitless attempt to bring his dead bride Eurydice back to the living.

Now over 400 years old, Orfeo has lost none of its beauty and power and is a milestone in the evolution of opera.

Performed in English by a lineup of top New Zealand singers, this will be conducted by Simon Romanos, with support from the Eternity Renaissance Orchestra, led by Anne Loeser.

Do you want to work with Footlights in 2019? Have a musical in mind that would be perfect for our society? This is your chance to pitch a show to us! Email wellingtonfootlights@gmail.com with some information about yourself and why you would be a great fit for our society, and some information about the musical you'd like us to produce.

We have a few requirements for musicals that we consider for the society:

The performance rights must be available for community theatre societies in New Zealand.

There must be enough roles or ensemble involvement for approximately 32 performing members to participate

The roles must be able to be cast by our existing pool of performing members
