hi all, i'll have to be for a few weeks in a no internet area and I'd like to find a Chess app that i can download and use offline, without internet whcih will be able to analyze my moves when playing against the PC, give suggestions and alternatives.

I am just getting back into chess after a 25 year hiatus. Lichess and the Chess.com app on my iPhone are excellent. However, I seem to be out of luck when on an aeroplane or otherwise without a wi-fi connection. I am most interested in short chess puzzles or tactics training. What apps (free or otherwise) have worked for you?

Usually I use Lichess to analyse games, but sometimes I am offline. Is there any software with the capability of providing offline computer analysis, giving the rate of inaccuracies/mistakes/blunders and the average centipawn loss for a given game?

During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, traditional (offline) chess tournaments were prohibited and instead held online. We exploit this as a unique setting to assess the impact of moving offline tasks online on the cognitive performance of individuals. We use the Artificial Intelligence embodied in a powerful chess engine to assess the quality of chess moves and associated errors. Using within-player comparisons, we find a statistically and economically significant decrease in performance when competing online compared to competing offline. Our results suggest that teleworking might have adverse effects on workers performing cognitive tasks.

Like the larger chess collective, though, the relationships built among elite players have helped ease the hardships associated with the coronavirus pandemic while pushing them to do what they can to assist others.
