"SELF-PORTRAIT WITH DAD" MIXED MEDIA COLLAGE MADE WITH PAPER, WATCH PARTS, ACRYLIC PAINT AND CLOTH.
WHAT STARTED OUT AS A SELF-PORTRAIT, ENDED UP BEING AN IMAGE OF ME AND MY DAD. HE WAS AN INSPIRATION TO ME AND I ADMIRED THE WAY HE COULD MAKE THE TINY PIECES IN A WATCH OR CLOCK FUNCTION TOGETHER. HE ENCOURAGED ME TO USE HIS PRECIOUS COLLECTION OF WOODWORKING TOOLS AND NEVER THOUGHT TWICE ABOUT THE FACT THAT I WAS A GIRL. THIS IS MY HOMMAGE TO HIM.

This artwork called "Brainwashed" is about survival, no matter the era, and the extreme maneuvers that so many people have had to undertake in order to keep body and soul as one.
It’s about the stories we’re told by our governments, who always claim that their mandate is to operate in our best interests, yet everywhere in society we see scores of examples where the opposite is true.
This piece is about keeping a blind eye to the downtrodden, underprivileged, invisible majority of citizens who hover at the poverty line while governments enable the rich to thrive. Symbolically, I wish to show that even in this age more and more citizens are out there on a limb, using every desperate measure available to attract their proverbial slice of the economic pie. There is no safety net to protect them or to break their fall. They don’t know better than to risk their lives for a false promise which keeps them hopeful and blind to another reality.
(I wish to thank John Dominis for the inspiration provided by his photograph of aerialist, Betty Fox skipping rope twenty stories above downtown Chicago in 1955).

I was positively intrigued by the organists taking part in an international pipe organ competition. The determination, the skill and the passion that they put into their work was truly impressive. So many keyboards, pedals, knobs to coordinate!
When I hear the first opening notes of an organ piece, it feels like the heavens are opening up, therefore there is sky in this artwork along with the pipes. The image was created using acrylic paint, artist pens and paper on canvas.
16" x 20"
The image was inspired by my fascination with the image of the red cross. In several ways, it symbolizes that the world as it is now, and so many people in it, need first aid.
The artwork was created with paper, artist pens and acrylic paint on canvas. The entire image has been sealed over with medical gauze.
22" x 30" mixed media on canvas.
