Director of Humanitarian Operations
Position Overview
The Director of Humanitarian Operations is a senior administrative position within Chernair responsible for developing and coordinating humanitarian aid campaigns and missions for the Chernair community.
This position brings a humanitarian mission element to Chernair by creating opportunities for pilots to participate in simulated relief efforts around the world. Campaigns can range from a single custom humanitarian flight to larger, multi-flight operations involving multiple pilots and destinations.
The goal is to give Chernair pilots opportunities to fly with a purpose while creating unique and engaging experiences for the community.
Core Mission
The primary mission of the Director of Humanitarian Operations is:
Use aviation to create meaningful humanitarian experiences for the Chernair community.
The Director is responsible for regularly creating humanitarian campaigns that give pilots an opportunity to simulate delivering aid, transporting personnel, evacuating civilians, supporting disaster response, and performing other humanitarian aviation missions.
Primary Responsibilities
Humanitarian Campaigns
Develop and organize humanitarian aid campaigns for Chernair pilots.
Create at least one humanitarian campaign every month.
Campaigns may be as simple as a single custom flight or expanded into larger multi-flight operations.
Develop realistic and engaging humanitarian scenarios for pilots to participate in.
Create campaign objectives, backgrounds, destinations, and flight requirements as appropriate.
Coordinate multiple flights when a larger campaign is planned.
Campaign Variety
Humanitarian campaigns can cover a wide range of scenarios, including:
Disaster relief
Earthquake and flood response
Medical aid transportation
Food and water deliveries
Humanitarian evacuations
Refugee assistance
Search and rescue support
Wildfire relief
Emergency supply transportation
Peacekeeping and humanitarian support
Remote community resupply
Pandemic or public health response
Natural disaster recovery
International aid missions
The Director is encouraged to be creative and develop campaigns that provide pilots with experiences beyond standard airline operations.
Campaign Development
Each campaign should provide pilots with enough information to understand why the mission is taking place and what they are accomplishing.
Depending on the size of the campaign, this may include:
A humanitarian situation briefing
Mission objectives
Origin and destination airports
Aircraft recommendations
Cargo or passenger requirements
Flight numbers
Mission routes
Campaign timelines
Background information
Special operating requirements
Completion requirements
Larger campaigns may include multiple phases, multiple aircraft types, and multiple participating pilots.
Community Engagement
The Director of Humanitarian Operations should work closely with the Director of Community Engagement to promote campaigns and encourage participation.
Responsibilities may include:
Announcing upcoming humanitarian campaigns.
Encouraging pilots to participate.
Creating campaign discussions within Discord.
Sharing campaign progress with the community.
Recognizing pilots who participate in humanitarian operations.
Creating campaign completion awards or achievements when appropriate.
Encouraging pilots to share screenshots, flight reports, and experiences.
Humanitarian campaigns should feel like community events, not simply another flight on a schedule.
Working With Other Departments
The Director should collaborate with other Chernair departments when developing campaigns.
This may include:
Community Engagement — promoting campaigns and increasing participation.
Console Operations — ensuring campaigns can be reasonably completed by Xbox and PlayStation pilots.
Flight Operations — coordinating routes, aircraft, and operational requirements.
Events Staff — organizing group humanitarian flights.
Chernair Leadership — coordinating larger or organization-wide campaigns.
The Director should make every reasonable effort to ensure humanitarian campaigns are accessible to the widest possible range of Chernair pilots.
Minimum Activity Requirement
The Director of Humanitarian Operations is expected to create at least one humanitarian campaign per month.
There is no requirement for every campaign to be a large-scale operation.
A campaign may consist of:
Small Campaign
One custom humanitarian flight.
A simple mission briefing.
One pilot or multiple pilots.
Medium Campaign
Several related flights.
Multiple destinations.
Multiple aircraft types.
A defined humanitarian scenario.
Large Campaign
Multi-phase humanitarian operation.
Multiple participating pilots.
Multiple destinations and aircraft.
Detailed campaign storyline and objectives.
Community-wide participation.
The emphasis should be on consistency and quality rather than unnecessary complexity.

Comfortable creating scenarios and missions
Organized and dependable
Able to create engaging campaign briefings
Comfortable coordinating with other staff
Proactive and self-motivated
Able to commit to producing at least one campaign each month

What Success Looks Like
A successful Director of Humanitarian Operations will give Chernair pilots something they cannot get from a normal scheduled flight:
A reason to fly.
Success means:
At least one humanitarian campaign is created every month.
Pilots regularly participate in humanitarian missions.
Campaigns provide unique and memorable flying experiences.
Campaigns encourage community interaction.
Pilots understand the purpose behind their missions.
Console and PC pilots can participate whenever reasonably possible.
The humanitarian program continues to grow in creativity and scope.
Chernair develops a recognizable humanitarian operations identity within the flight simulation community.
The Bottom Line
The Director of Humanitarian Operations creates missions with meaning.
Whether it is a single pilot delivering emergency supplies after an earthquake or a community-wide campaign transporting humanitarian aid across multiple countries, every campaign should give Chernair pilots an opportunity to feel like their flight is accomplishing something.
One campaign every month. One mission at a time. Making every flight matter.
