Biography

I am an Assistant Research Professor at Johns Hopkins University, affiliated with the Mathematical Institute for Data Science (MINDS). I obtained my BS/MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2018, did some start-up venture for a couple of years, came back and got my PhD at Johns Hopkins with Prof. Rama Chellappa in 2023. 

I am broadly interested in Computer Vision and its various applications, particularly in 3D. My work have mainly focused on high quality, high resolution 3D reconstruction both from natural images (Neural Radiance Field, 3D Gaussian Splatting, etc.) and medical images (Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, etc.). I am fascinated by novel algorithms that can recover signals/patterns beyond normal human perception, and the ability to use them to benefit society, e.g. in site modeling, urban planning, robotics, medical analysis, surgery, etc. I have also done some work on image analysis tasks, e.g. segmentation, detection, re-ID, etc.

I am the project lead and a co-PI on the JHU team that participates in WRIVA, which is a large scale, multi-university effort at leveraging 3D reconstruction for robust site modeling. I am grateful for the opportunity to be working with world class researchers such as Ravi, Hao, Manjunath, Shiv, Matthias, Abhinav, Tom, Ashok, Guha, Vishal, Deliang, and their amazing students. I am also thankful to collaborations with Kevin Zhou and Daguang Xu on 3D medical imaging. 

For those interested, I have organized a tutorial on 2D-3D modelling in medical imaging in MICCAI 2021. I am also organizing a workshop on natural image 3D reconstruction in WACV 2025. Please refer to my Research Statement for a quick overview of what I've done in the past.
