Women in Industrial and Systems Engineering (WISE), based in the ISE department at VT, offers both formal and informal opportunities for camaraderie, mentoring, and knowledge acquisition across all levels and specialties within the industrial and systems engineering profession.

Dr. Chen provided the WISE community with an overview of the ongoing research at the SIAL lab. Graduate research assistant Jingtao Zhang followed with a lightning talk on his recent study on dual metamodel-based Sobol' index estimation.
Dr. Chen met with incoming College of Engineering students in the Student Transition Engineering Program (STEP) to highlight the opportunities available within the ISE Department at Virginia Tech. She also shared insights from her personal academic journey and discussed her research in operations research and data science.

Dr. Chen attended CEED’s Women's Preview Weekend dinner event. 140 young women who have been offered admission to the College of Engineering at VT for the Fall of 2024 attended this event.

Dr. Chen participated in the BEE VT summer program for Black/African American rising junior and senior high school students, where she and the graduate research assistant, Jin Zhao, provided workshops on simulation modeling and analysis to rising black high school juniors and seniors interested in pursuing engineering degrees, showcased some real-life simulation analytics applications, and provided hands-on activities for the students to build a simulation model and conduct analyses.
