Theoretical Chemistry Preview Day 2023

Program Overview

Theoretical chemistry lies at the intersection of physics, mathematics, biology, computer science, and chemistry. Theoretical chemists here at Stanford develop and apply models and computational techniques to simulate molecular behavior, from the simplest chemicals to complex living systems. The past decades have seen a dramatic increase in computational power, data availability and new algorithms. As this trend continues, the scope of problems that theoretical chemistry can address will further increase. These future challenges require new generations of creative thinkers with diverse perspectives dedicated to tackling the unknown.

To facilitate recruiting the next generation of scientists, we are hosting a preview day for undergraduate students and graduates interested in pursuing a PhD in theoretical chemistry at Stanford University. The event will be most beneficial to participants who intend to apply to the PhD program after Fall 2023, but those applying this year are also welcome to attend. We especially encourage students who have the potential to enhance the diversity - broadly defined - in STEM fields to attend. Participants will attend an afternoon of activities which will introduce them to theoretical chemistry research, provide the opportunity to talk with Professors Martínez, Markland, and Rotskoff, connect them with graduate students and postdocs, and give insight into the PhD application process. A schedule for the event can be found below.

Please note that participation in this preview program is not a requirement for prospective Stanford Chemistry applicants interested in theoretical chemistry, nor is it a guarantee of being accepted into the PhD program.

Event Details

Date: Monday, October 30th 2023
