Catalog Objects

The knowledge base ontology describes the catalog items and how they are used and interpreted by the database. There is a one-to-one correspondence of the ontology objects with the objects in the database, giving them added context. The ontology also drives the user-interface.

The ontology of the catalog object has a hierarchy of standard information (the screen shots are from the properties of the Protege tool).

The screenshot shows that all catalog objects have 5 common records.

DataSetReference

The information for a publication reference:

DOI: The DOI number of the publication. In the interface, this can be used to retrieve the rest of the information
ReferenceString: A reference as it would appear in a publication
ReferenceTitle: The title of the publication
AuthorInformation: A set of authors

DescriptionDataData

This gives some basic textual description of the catalog object:

DateCreate: The creation data of the object. This refers to the data when the information in the object, for example, an observation, was made (not necessarily when the data was entered into the database)
DescriptionAbstract: A (paragraph) description of the object.
DescriptionTitle: The one line title of the object
PurposeConceptPair: The two keywords describing the general context (concept) of the object and its purpose.
