Checklist Before YOUR Ride

• Ensure safety helmet is secure according to guidelines

• Hi viz or reflective clothing

• Carry water to keep hydrated

• Carry energy gel or instant energy food like banana

• Carry air pump, puncture repair kit, spare tube and basic bike repair kit / multi-set tool

• Well charged rear red light and headlight

• Have protective glasses

• Perform M check on the bike

Winter checks

• Wet weather can be slippery, so make sure you have a good all season tyre with enough thread in it. Also you can run a slightly lower psi from the recommended , which gives more traction on the road

• Make sure your chain is clean, you can buy a chain cleaning tool or use a good old toothbrush to clean your chain. Make sure you use a wet lube for the chain and wipe of any excess

• Ensure breaks work smoothly and do not rub against your wheel. You can use some chain lube on the break cables to lubricate it

• Keep yourself warm

  1. Head cover & neck - balaclava

  2. A good base layer and a mid layer

  3. Thermal padded long bottoms

  4. Winter cycling gloves

  5. Merino wool cycling jersey: these will keep you warm

  6. A good pair of cycling socks or any warm socks

• Check for weather and wind speed before your ride an make sure you plan ahead.

• Font and back lights fully charged

• Watch out for potholes, slippery, icy roads, leaves

• Don’t ride on water or puddles, try and avoid it if you can. If you do go on a puddle or water, make sure the breaks work before you speed up
