Here’s an activity that can be done at home, either alone or with whoever else is around.
Flip through a book and randomly choose one word, then another, then a third.
Of course, choose a different word if somebody feels uncomfortable with what you’ve come up with, or if it’s not suitable for this activity. I would personally consider words like “the” to be unsuitable because it would be a bit boring, and I wouldn’t want to use words like “Cinderella” either because that would really limit the directions I could take this in. But somebody else might have different preferences.
If your finger is pointing at two words, you can choose which one to use.
Create a title that uses all three words.
Then act out a scene that goes with your title.
My preference for this sort of activity is to work out a scene and then perform it, but it also works as an improvisation activity.
Film it and/or write it down if desired.
If doing the activity by yourself, consider doing a scene that only requires one character (or only requires one character to do anything), or playing more than one character, or just writing out a scene.
When I ran through this activity the other day, I got the words “dear” “Dragons” and “deep.” I came up with the title “Dear Dragons of the Deep Sea.” I found myself pleading with sea dragons to let me go home for a while.
Here I’m pointing at “my” and “dear.” I chose “dear.”
This one is easy; my finger is only pointing at “Dragons.”
With this one, let’s say my finger is pretty much just pointing at “deep.” Let’s go with that.
