Checkmate Room ("the app") is an online chess game developed by Christian Kabuya ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used. The short version: the app collects no personal information — no name, no email, no account.
The app does not require registration and does not collect personally identifiable information. To make online multiplayer work, the app uses the following:
Anonymous identifier. When you open the app, Firebase Authentication assigns your device a random anonymous ID. This ID is not linked to your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal information.
Gameplay data. When you play an online match, the moves of the game and the room code you create or join are transmitted through Firebase Realtime Database so that both players see the same board. This data exists to run the match.
Basic technical data. Firebase services may automatically process standard technical information, such as general device type and connection information, in order to deliver the service reliably.
No names, email addresses, or phone numbers
No contacts, photos, files, or location data
No advertising identifiers — the app contains no ads
No chat or messages — the app has no messaging feature
The anonymous identifier and gameplay data are used solely to operate the app: matching two players into the same room, synchronising moves in real time, and offering a rematch after a game. We do not use this data for advertising, profiling, or marketing, and we do not sell or share it with third parties for their own purposes.
The app is built on Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Firebase Realtime Database), operated by Google LLC. Data handled by these services is processed according to Google's Firebase privacy documentation and the Google Privacy Policy. Data is encrypted in transit.
Game rooms and match data are transient and serve only the active session. The anonymous identifier persists on your device until you uninstall the app or clear its data; doing so severs any link between your device and previously stored gameplay data. If you would like data associated with your anonymous ID removed from our systems, contact us at the address below and we will delete it.
The app is a chess game suitable for a general audience. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, and no communication features.
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this document and revise the date at the top.
