CheckMate ("we," "our," or "the app") is a student attendance tracking application developed by Himanshu Singh. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. CheckMate is designed with a privacy-first approach — all your data stays on your device.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use CheckMate, you may voluntarily provide the following information:

• Profile Information: Your name, college/university name, email address, phone number, and attendance goal.

• Profile Picture: You may select a built-in avatar or choose an image from your device gallery.

• Attendance Data: Subject names, class schedules, attendance records (present, absent, cancelled), room numbers, and block/building information.

• Holiday Information: Holiday names and dates that you manually add.

• Semester Configuration: Last class date and notification preferences.

Information Collected Automatically

CheckMate does not automatically collect any personal information. We do not use analytics, tracking tools, or advertising frameworks.

How Your Data Is Stored

All data is stored locally on your device only. CheckMate uses your device's local storage (SharedPreferences) to save your attendance records, profile information, and app settings.

• No data is uploaded to any server or cloud service.

• No data is transmitted over the internet.

• No data is shared with any third party.

• No data is accessible to us or anyone else.

Device Permissions

CheckMate requests the following permissions to provide its features:

• Camera: Used solely for scanning QR codes to import timetables or restore backups. The camera is never used for any other purpose.

• Notifications: Used to send you daily attendance reminders at your chosen time. You control the timing and can disable notifications at any time.

• Storage/Photos Access: Used to save QR code images to your device gallery and to select profile pictures from your photo library.

All permissions are optional. The core attendance tracking functionality works without granting any permissions.

Data Sharing

CheckMate includes features that allow you to voluntarily share data:

• Classmate Sync: You can generate a QR code or text code containing your timetable (subject names, schedules, room numbers) to share with classmates. This sharing is initiated entirely by you and happens directly between devices. No data passes through our servers.

• Backup Codes: You can generate backup codes containing your attendance data to restore on another device. These codes are created and shared by you directly.

• Attendance Reports: You can share a text summary of your attendance statistics through your device's share functionality.

• Semester Wrapped: You can share a generated image summarizing your semester attendance statistics.

We have no access to any shared data. All sharing happens through your device's native sharing capabilities.

Data Retention

Your data remains on your device until you choose to delete it. You can delete all your data at any time using the "Wipe All Data" option in the app's Settings. Uninstalling the app will also remove all stored data.

Children's Privacy

CheckMate is designed for college and university students. We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. If you are under 13, please do not use this application.

Third-Party Services

CheckMate uses the following third-party services solely for app functionality:

• Google Fonts: To display text styling within the app. Google Fonts may load font data from Google's servers. You can review Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.

No other third-party services, analytics tools, advertising networks, or tracking technologies are used.

Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device, the security of your data depends on your device's own security measures (screen lock, encryption, etc.). We recommend:

• Keeping your device locked with a PIN, password, or biometric authentication.

• Regularly backing up your attendance data using the app's backup feature.

• Not sharing your backup codes with untrusted individuals.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

• Access: All your data is visible within the app at all times.

• Modification: You can edit any attendance record, profile information, or setting at any time.

• Deletion: You can delete individual records, subjects, or all data entirely using the "Wipe All Data" feature.

• Portability: You can export your data using the backup feature.
