The Republic of Checkland is a constitutional parliamentary republic with direct-democratic and digital governance elements, combining centralized executive authority with broad citizen participation. Founded on December 6, 2020, Checkland’s political system emphasizes sovereignty, civic responsibility, and personal liberty.
The national motto, “Memento Mori | Remember Death,” reflects the guiding principle of governance in Checkland: authority is temporary, responsibility is permanent, and all power must be exercised with humility and accountability.
Checkland’s government operates through two primary constitutional pillars—the Legislative and Executive—with judicial authority integrated directly into executive and constitutional mechanisms.
The Checkland Grand Assembly serves as the supreme legislative body of the Republic.
All citizens may propose legislation
Most legislation requires direct approval by citizens through national vote, as mandated by Amendment XXVIII
The Assembly debates, amends, and certifies laws prior to voting and assent
The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Willard Ross, who:
Enforces parliamentary procedure
Moderates debate
Certifies legislation for digital vote or executive assent
All sessions of the Grand Assembly are conducted entirely online, ensuring full participation regardless of province or residency.
The Digital Grand Assembly (DGA) is a subordinate legislative mechanism designed for rapid, accessible governance in a fully digital state.
The DGA may:
Pass Digital Laws, resolutions, and regulatory instruments
Enact administrative and procedural legislation
Govern digital citizenship, online conduct, and platform-based regulation
The DGA may not:
Pass Grand Bills
Amend the Constitution
Enact legislation affecting national sovereignty, defense, or foundational law
All Grand Bills must be handled exclusively by the full Checkland Grand Assembly and, where required, submitted to direct citizen vote.
The Prime Minister is the Head of Government and the central executive authority of the Republic.
