With tourism still on the rebound in San Francisco after nose-diving during the pandemic, travelers may be able to find particularly good budget hotel deals here this summer: The city ranked at the very bottom of a new survey of the 30 priciest destinations for hotel stays in California.

The survey considered 30 popular destinations across the state that have at least 20 hotels or inns. It calculated the average price for the cheapest available double occupancy room (single king or queen) from July 1 to Aug. 31, 2023. Only hotels rated at least three stars, with a maximum distance of one mile from the city center or beach, were included.

The 30 destinations were selected based on the number of available hotels and summer travel demand, according to a spokesperson for cheaphotels.org. The average rates were taken from travel sites Booking.com, Expedia and Priceline.
