Chitambo Development Foundation (CHDF) is a community-based, non-profit, non-political and non-religious organization established to respond to the social, economic and environmental challenges facing rural communities in Zambia. The organization was founded with a strong belief that sustainable development is most effective when communities themselves are empowered to identify problems and lead solutions.
CHDF currently operates in Chitambo district of Central Province, with a long-term vision to expand to other neighboring districts as institutional capacity grows.
CHDF was born out of lived community experiences, witnessing persistent poverty, limited access to education and health services, environmental degradation, and restricted livelihood opportunities in rural areas. These realities inspired the formation of an organization rooted in community philanthropy, participation, and resilience.
Our work focuses on working with communities rather than for them, supporting local initiatives, strengthening local capacities, and unlocking community assets to drive long-term, people-centered development.
