Non-verbal communication tools for free!
Have you ever used PODD or digital communication boards with nonverbal kids? If so, ChatPaths might make a great addition to your nonverbal communication toolbelt! Perhaps you use great tools like BoardMaker's PODD boards or other tools and are just looking for additional options. That's great! Looking for new ways to incorporate technology to improve the ability to communicate is a great idea, and we're looking to help!
ChatPaths aims to augment tools like these by providing a framework for organizing and displaying these methods for communication in an organized way, specifically for those that have gross motor issues where touching a specific square can be problematic.
So how does it work? ChatPaths let's you:
Take pictures and import images from anywhere to fill your vocabulary for communication
Record audio to pair with the images you see on the screen
Use text to speech to read the entire path you've navigated
Organize and create situational PODD boards for specific situations, such as Lunch or dealing with frustration or problem
Our nonverbal communication boards are designed to allow infinite levels of nesting. For example, say you have a path for "I want to eat". When you tap the path, then the next option presented might be food choices. Our Android app lets you easily configure and adjust the ordering of these paths!
We've designed our app specifically to help kids that have Cerebral Palsy and made the color scheme highly contrasting in case other visual issues are at play, such as cortical visual impairment (CVI).
We know there's other assistive technology solutions out there, and we encourage you to explore what works for you and your situation, but hopefully you'll find value in our offering and we encourage you to give it a try! It's available for free on Android in the Google Play store.
