All data taken from here. I think a lot of people are really underestimating how little energy and water ChatGPT uses compared to most other regular things we do. One issue is that it's very hard to visualize large numbers. If I say "One burger uses 200,000 times as much water as a ChatGPT search" this sounds big, but you don't realize just how big it is until you see the difference. I've made a few pages with a lot of dots, where each dot represents a ChatGPT search, and all the dots together show how many ChatGPT searches you would need to do to use as much energy or water as the other common activity.
