Our Club

The Chatfield Robotics Club operates under the organization For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology (FIRST). We participate in FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).

FTC

FTC is open to students ages 12-18, and is most commonly remembered as the 'small robot' program. FTC is more restricted than FRC and is often considered 'easier'. All members must compete on FTC for at least one season before moving to FRC. FTC robots are 18X18X18 inches and compete on a 12X8 foot field in a game that is revealed at the start of each season. Chatfield Robotics has 3 FTC teams: 17302 Max Resistance, 15755 Conductivity, and 20678 Pure Voltage.

FRC

FRC is open to students ages 14-18, and is most commonly remembered as the 'big robot' program. FRC is much closer to industry-level in terms to skill acquisition, and takes place on a much shorter time frame. FRC robots cannot weigh more than 120 pounds, and usually play on a 27X54 foot field. While FRC does not start its season until January, FRC students will meet throughout the whole year.
