Exam Rules

A minimum score of 70% is required to pass BOTH TECHNIQUE portion and REPERTOIRE portions of the exam.

• 1. • Original scores for all pieces must be presented at the exam. 

     • Photocopies of copyrighted material are strictly prohibited. Use of photocopies will result in a 25-point deduction per piece. 

       • • Exception: Photocopies may be used solely to facilitate page turns or for the adjudicator's reference when non-memorized pieces are performed.

• Digitally purchased scores are allowed only if accompanied by proof of purchase (receipt, email confirmation, etc.).

• IMSLP scores are only accepted for out-of-print works, and

  • • Must be verified by a publisher's letter granting permission to use a photocopy.

Technique Portion

• 1. • Technical Skills are required to be performed from memory for all levels, Primer - Level 10.

     • Technical Study/Etude (Levels 1-10) do NOT need to be performed from memory but must be at least sixteen (16) measures long. No technical study/etude is required for primer level. 

Repertoire Portion

• 1. • Memorization is not required for Primer Level.

     • For levels 1 -10, two (2) pieces must be memorized. 

     • Only one piece memorized will result in a 25-point deduction.  No pieces memorized will result in a 50-point deduction. 

     • Memorizing more than two pieces will not yield additional points.
