PBIS Logic
Teachers had expressed a desire to have a behavior program since Boys Town had faded away over the years. We had several new staff members that had experience using PBIS. We decided to explore the option of adopting PBIS and applying for the PBIS grant available through the Nebraska Department of Education.
In 2018, we indicated on our application that we had approximately 115 office referrals the previous year. Of those 115 office referrals, 29 resulted in suspensions. The most referred behaviors had been noncompliance with a directive given by an adult and physical altercations. At the high school level, violations also span into tardies, electronic device violations, dress code and apathy-related behaviors. We were excited for the data tracking and the ability empower our staff by giving them a way to recognize the positive behaviors of our students. We completed the Initial Survey and were approved for the grant and the program.
