Things to do

There are plenty of things to keep you busy during your extra days in South East Queensland. If you like the beach, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast are great day-trip destinations. There are some beautiful hikes in the numerous nationals parks nearby, such as Mt Tamborine, or Springbrook. Another good idea is simply to explore the city of Brisbane, as it prepares to host the 2032 Olympic games. You can visit the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Streets Beach, Mt. Cootha, City Botanical Gardens, the Wheel of Brisbane, Kangaroo Point or the Queensland Cultural Center, which includes the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art. Fortitude Valley (or "the Valley") is known for its intense night life while West End is a more eclectic, culturally rich neighborhood.

POSTER:
The Brisbane river, represented by the light orange curvy line, divides Brisbane into the colloquial "Northside" (light red) and "Southside" (teal). The silver notches represent some of the bridges of Brisbane, which are (from top right to bottom left): Sir Leo Hieschler, Story, Goodwill, Victoria, William Jolly, Go Between and Eleanor Schonell. There is a torus fibration over Brisbane, with the special fiber (the degenerate torus) placed over the University of Queensland at St. Lucia.

BANNER:
The purple flowers are the flowers of jacaranda trees that flourish vibrantly and coat everything in a thick blanket of petals in Queensland. They are native to South America and was introduced to Australia in the 19th century by colonial botanists and sea captains. Since their blooming coincides with exam periods in late Spring/early Summer, the peak of student anxiety and academic pressure is colloquially termed "the Purple Panic".
