Said to be one of the first American Christmas trees, this cone-shaped tree sports gorgeous forest-green needles. Its strong branches make it a perfect choice for heavy ornaments; however, has a shorter needle retention, often 2-3 weeks. Norway Spruces give off a pleasant but mild scent. We do not recommend purchasing this tree until Mid-December.
With needles approximately 1 in. in length, these bright green trees have excellent needle retention with a fresh pine smell. These are the farm favorite due to their excellent survival rate and will remain fresh throughout the holiday season.
A true classic! This bluish-green pyramid-shaped pine has that familiar but mild pine smell. This native tree's needles are 2.5-5 inches long, are soft, flexible, and have good retention.

Once you cut your own tree, place it in water ASAP before sap covers the base and to allow the tree to start drinking water. Generally, within 3 to 6 hours, the cut stump gets air in the plant tissue, which lessens a tree’s water absorption. A fresh cut will reopen the pores that take up water. If you would like to bring your tree indoors later, temporarily place the freshly cut trunk in a bucket that is kept full of water in a cool and shaded location.
If needed, make a fresh, perpendicular ¼ to ½ inch cut at the trunk base before placing in the stand. Fit the tree to an appropriate stand. Avoid whittling the trunk and angled or v-shaped cuts as outer wood layers are most efficient for water uptake. Do not drill holes in the trunk base... it doesn't help water uptake.
Place the tree in water immediately after cutting.
Opt for a large capacity stand to preserve tree freshness; avoid small "coffee cup" stands.
Monitor water levels regularly, as they can absorb substantial amounts daily, particularly in the first week.
Check the stand daily to ensure water level is above the tree base; some stands may still have water without submerging the tree.
Research indicates plain tap/well water is the best choice; some additives, fertilizers, and other sold concoctions may harm moisture retention and increase needle loss.
Find a location that is away from a direct heating source such as a fireplace, radiator, electric heaters, etc. Test all light cords and other electric decorations to ensure they are in good working order. Best practice is to leave all lights off while in bed or away from your home. Watch out for cats, wagging tails, and toddlers.
