One of New Orleans' most popular dishes is the jambalaya. For today’s blog, Charles Wooten shares tips on preparing a jambalaya unlike any other.
Play with the jalapenos.
Jalapenos play a huge role in the taste of jambalaya. Fortunately, anyone preparing can modify the dish's spiciness level by simply adding or reducing the number of jalapenos used. The limit is two, though, which is the spiciest. Any higher might overpower all the other tastes.
Choose or combine protein sources.
Charles Wooten mentions that the traditional protein sources for jambalaya are chicken, shrimp, and Andouille sausage. You may use one or two or even all three. Some chefs even add crawfish, pork, clams, or cod.
Try a vegetarian jambalaya.
Vegetarians and vegans who want to avoid meat can create a meatless jambalaya. This tasty and fibrous variant can contain many veggies, from carrots to squash to mushrooms to broccoli and much more.
Enjoy with fresh sides.
Charles Wooten mentions that one of the best things about jambalaya is that it can go with sa wide variety of sides. The popular choices are salads, seasonal fruits, or a combination of seasonal fruits. As for the drinks, jambalaya can go well with iced tea, Moscow Mules, or white wine.
