The Game
This is a trivia tournament, where we will have some fun testing our knowledge on a variety of topics.
The games will be run online using a combination of Zoom (for video and audio) and Buzzin.live (for players to buzz in when they have the answer). Details for both are provided below.
Each game will consist of 40 questions. The moderator will ask the questions verbally on the zoom meeting. Players will have to buzz in when they think they have the answer to the question. The order in which players buzz in determines the order in which they get to answer the question.
Important Note: If a player buzzes in before the moderator finishes asking the question, the moderator will stop in the middle of asking the question to get an answer. If the answer is wrong, they will go to the next player who buzzed in. If no one gets the correct answer, the moderator will then finish the question. A player that has already answered incorrectly will not be allowed to buzz in again to answer.
A correct answer gets you 2 points, while an incorrect answer will lose you 2 points. All scores will be tracked in the buzzin.live system as well as in a spreadsheet that will be shared on screen.
No googling! We're playing for fun and for charity, so let's play fair!
Zoom and Buzzin.Live Details
Zoom is a video conferencing software that will be the medium by which the trivia contest will be run. A day before the contest you are participating in, you will be sent a private zoom link by email (to the email address from which you sent us your donation receipt). Please do not share this link with anyone else.
When you join the zoom meeting, you will be placed in the waiting room. Before you will be let into the zoom room, we will check to see if you are on our list of people that have signed up for that day's tournament. So please rename yourself to the name you provided when donating so that we can identify you.
We will also be using a system called BuzzIn.live, which is an interface that allows people to buzz in when they want to answer the question. It will record the order in which people buzz in. Upon joining the zoom meeting, also go to buzzin.live and click 'Join Game'. Enter the same name that you are using for zoom when asked.
When you enter the zoom room, please mute yourself. We also ask that participants have their video on.
Please join the zoom meeting on time. At the beginning of the meeting, the moderator will go over instructions at the start time, including providing you the game code for buzzin.live. This is the code you will have to enter after you click 'Join Game'. We will also provide the game code in the zoom chat.
Please stay on mute while the moderator reads the question so it is easy for everyone to hear it. Buzz in as soon as you think you know the answer (either click the buzzer with your finger if on a mobile device such as a phone or tablet, or click the mouse or the space key on a computer). This will register your buzz and the order in which you buzzed in. Remember, you may buzz at any time during or after the question, unless the question has been marked dead.
