The aim of this 2-day scientific meeting is to gather international experts in Character Theory and Block Theory of Finite Groups in order to discuss the recent developments in the area and, in doing so, celebrating the impact and influence that Gabriel Navarro has had in the field over the last four decades.
Gabriel Navarro was born in Sueca (Valencia) on the 29th December 1964. He studied Mathematics at the University of Valencia and published his first papers as an undergraduate. Right after obtaining his PhD in Valencia, he was a Fulbright postdoc at MSRI Berkeley and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison under the supervision of I. Martin Isaacs. He would go back to Wisconsin-Madison as visiting professor in 2000 and 2011. He was the first EMS Distinguished Speaker in 2011.
Navarro is a Full Professor of the University of Valencia since 2005 and a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society since 2015. He has supervised 10 PhD Theses, among them those of the organisers of this event.
