She was born in São Paulo, Brazil. She moved to Sedona, Arizona, in North America, with her two brothers, sister, and her parents. They had purchased a farm where they cared for animals and grew crops. Carina's sister Lucia and her brothers Mateo and Leo assisted in the management of the farm while Carina herself focused on raising the animals. She enlisted in the army as a 68T as soon as she heard of her sisters "death". "The Incident", as she has come to call it, occurred four months into her career whilst on a convoy heading through Russia. A Foundation convoy carrying a 939 instance was ambushed by the insurgency in the same area that her convoy was travelling, during the ensuing battle the instance managed to escape. On the path of its escape it ran into Carina’s convoy. Carina herself doesn't remember much of what happened after her Humvee flipped, but often has nightmares of her platoonmates being slaughtered.  She remained trapped in the Humvee until members of both factions arrived. While the Insurgency focused on rescuing people, The Foundation took the opportunity to open fire on them. Thankfully the Insurgency won the battle, and ended up recruiting Carina in the end. Carina was very eager to join after hearing stories of 'Banished' from an Insurgent who initially confused them as the same person. She immediately focused on tracking her down to confirm a theory which lead her to Cell-Omega-2.
