I received a Teaching Award from our department in 2025. In their decision, the award committee highlighted:
· “care and thoughtfulness with how you approach your courses, including the innovative assignments (e.g., mind maps) rooted in evidence-based understandings of how we learn, helping students engage more deeply with the material.”
· “the fact you received so much positive feedback from students in statistics (a course where students are typically more critical).”
· “the interesting activities you implement to help retain knowledge, such as breaking students into groups and then comparing sample results with the entire class population results.”
In addition to the committee’s evaluation, this award first required student nominations. From the committee, I learned that students had offered the following comments:
· “always so open to helping her students and ensuring we understood the material.”
· “never made me feel bad about my exam grades and was always there to offer words of encouragement.”
· “always giving new study habits and things to help us succeed in her class.”
