Greg, my good friend of many years, joined me on sections of the John Muir Trail in both 2022 and 2024. We've shared countless funny and memorable moments. I still remember the night around 10 p.m. when he was looking for me by Rae Lakes, where we met up on the John Muir Trail after he had tackled the challenging Sawmill Pass Trail.
Juliet and Jill, whom I met on the JMT in 2022 and hiked with again in 2024, are genuine and always make me feel at ease, allowing me to be myself. I’ll always treasure the memory of them sharing their whiskey with me and singing songs from 'The Sound of Music' in a setting that felt straight out of the movie. I also fondly recall our descent through the steep snowfields from Shepherd Pass.
Jan, who can carry heavy loads and always demonstrates what a quality dinner should be during a hike.
Brandon, who was willing to share his trail goodies with me at VVR.
Jon, who shared his coffee and wine with me when I needed them most.
Light House and Pirate, with whom I spent quality time eating dinner and drinking whiskey.
Debbie (Trail Angel), who drove me from North Lake to Bishop."
Todd, who always told great stories and guided me through crossing a raging river.
Tim, who I met at South Lake and gave me a ride to Bishop in 2022, then gave me another ride from Bishop to South Lake in 2024. I still owe him a sushi dinner in Bishop.
Austin, who went out of his way to give his own medication to others to help them feel better.
Ryan carried a sturdy hiking pole and a fishing rod the entire way. He was the one who encouraged me to take my first dip in a lake, despite the cold water, to refresh myself. I still remember him waiting for me to ensure I could make it through a difficult pass.
Patty and Robyn, the mother-daughter duo, were experts at finding the perfect camping spots. Patty was the one who gave me my first trail name, "Bushwacker." I didn't quite understand the meaning at first, so I never ended up using it. 😊
In 2023, while hiking toward Red Meadows, I lost my Garmin device and frantically retraced my steps. Finding it seemed impossible, but then a fellow hiker from Japan appeared and returned it to me. He was my lucky charm that day!
