Dr. Chandana N – Principal Investigator
I am an environmental engineer working on sustainable water and sanitation solutions for emerging contexts. Currently, I serve as an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development, IIT Jodhpur. I hold a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from IIT Bombay, where I received the Pairmala Rao Award for the best Ph.D. thesis in 2022. I also have an M.Tech from NIT Warangal and a B.Tech in Civil Engineering. My research focuses on faecal sludge management, decentralized wastewater treatment, air pollution analysis, and third-party audits of environmental projects. I have contributed to several national and international initiatives, collaborating across disciplines to develop tools and technologies for sustainable development.
Sushma Kumari – Ph.D. Student
As a Ph.D. student at the Centre for Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development, IIT Jodhpur, I focus on the source exploration, assessment, and sustainability of emerging contaminants in water and sanitation systems. My research aims to understand the occurrence, pathways, and treatment of contaminants such as pharmaceuticals and personal care products in decentralized wastewater systems. I hold a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering and am passionate about advancing sustainable and science-driven solutions to address emerging environmental challenges in developing regions.
Nandagopal Govindan – Ph.D. Student
As a Ph.D. student at the Centre for Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development, IIT Jodhpur, my research focuses on the development and optimization of micro-scale water conservation systems to support Net Zero Water goals. I work on designing context-specific, decentralized solutions that enhance water efficiency and resilience, particularly in resource-constrained environments. My work integrates system modeling, performance assessment, and sustainability analysis to promote water self-sufficiency at the household and community levels.
Pramadha S – Ph.D. Student
As a Ph.D. student at the Centre for Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development, IIT Jodhpur, my research focuses on the development of sustainable concrete materials aimed at enhancing durability, reducing environmental impact, and promoting circular construction practices. With an M.Tech in Civil Engineering, I bring a strong foundation in structural materials and sustainability. My work explores the use of industrial byproducts, alternative binders, and low-carbon design strategies to support the transition toward greener infrastructure and climate-resilient development.
Bhuman Jyoti Das – MS by Research
I am an MS by Research student at the Centre for Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development, IIT Jodhpur. My research focuses on “Empowering Children in Jodhpur Women Central Jail: Pathways to Support and Care.” Through this work, I aim to explore and implement holistic approaches that ensure the well-being, education, and psychosocial development of children living in custodial settings. My interdisciplinary research integrates aspects of social justice, child rights, and community-based support systems to create sustainable interventions for some of society’s most vulnerable populations.
Pavan Pathloth– Ph.D. Student
I am a Ph.D. scholar at the Centre for Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development (CETSD), IIT Jodhpur. My research focuses on sustainable building development with a strong emphasis on net-zero buildings, aiming to enhance structural durability, reduce environmental impacts, and promote circular construction practices. I hold a B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from NIT Puducherry, which provides me with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in energy systems, sustainability, and low-carbon built environments.
