Development of a Smart Home-Based Assistive Device of Gait Modification Exercise for Knee Osteoarthritis Patient
Design a home-based gait modification exercise assistive device for knee OA patient to reduce the knee pain with high performance is the main design objective for this study.
This is important because this is convenient for the patient to perform the exercise at home instead of traveling a long distance to the hospital. This can save the time of the patient so that they can doing the exercises anytime.
Besides, adding an IoT feature to the device able to connect the patient and the expert together via the wireless connection. Expert is allow to monitor and evaluate the performance of the patient at any time. This definitely decrease the waiting time for patient to meet with the expert.
Gait retraining exercise is a type of exercise that used to modify the gait cycle of walking and running as well. This exercise is applied to the knee OA patient as this exercise is able to reduce the peak of the gait cycle and effectively reduce the load in the medial compartment of the knee with knee pain relief. As a result, the progression of knee OA can be controlled. The recommended gait retraining exercise for this device id Toe-Out Gait.
