Our 2024 speaker Ross Maghielse helps shape audience growth, innovation, business and content strategy at The Philadelphia Inquirer. He previously worked for The Guardian, CBS Local Digital Media, Facebook, Bleacher Report and Digital First Media's Project Thunderdome. He focused on why editors need change management skills.
Marjorie Valbrun, managing editor of Inside Higher Ed, joined us for AEJMC in D.C. Valbrun previously worked for The Baltimore Sun, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Wall Street Journal, and was a Nieman Fellow. We also honored recipients of the Deborah Gump Research Prize for Editing and the Linda Shockley Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The Champions of Editing welcomed keynote speaker Daniel Levitt. Levitt is the founder of Inside The Newsroom, a newsletter and job board dedicated to helping journalists find work and navigate the industry. The Champions of Editing also honored the recipients of the Deborah Gump Research Prize for Editing and the Linda Shockley Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Check out the presentation shared by our keynote speaker Nana aba Duncan! Duncan is the inaugural Carty Chair in Journalism, Diversity and Inclusion Studies at Carleton University's School of Journalism.
The Breakfast of Editing Champions — Planning For The Future
If you missed our gathering, you can see the presentation about the Breakfast history/finances below. Following the event at AEJMC 2020, leaders from NOND, SCHJ and our financial sponsors met to follow-up with discussion and feedback we received at the conference. Moving forward, the event will be known as the Champions of Editing, which gives us greater flexibility in the time of our event. Our constituents gave us the green light to move away from providing food and to focus on activities and speakers. Thus, with the support of our sponsors, the Champions of Editing are working on editing-related research and teaching competitions that will be open to all AEJMC members.
