Welcome to the brand new Chamblee Charter High School Science Olympiad Website! We're so excited to meet all of you and have a great year. Due to COVID-19, this year will look a little different from others, but we'll keep you updated along the way.
The tournament this year will be State-wide meaning there is no Regional tournament. The competition will be a stay-at-home Mini SO format that will take place on March 13th, 2021.
GASO has announced the plan for Mini SO! You should have gotten an email about this update with info about the tournament and changes to particular events
Here is a list of the events that have been modified:
Chem Lab, Circuit Lab, Machines, Sound of Music, and Water Quality: Now limited to the written test portion
Forensics: There will be a Dry Lab with pre-generated data for analysis
Boomilever: This event has been completely redone and is now titled Digital Structures. This will have you design a Boomilever on SkyCiv structural analysis software. The official rules pdf is attached below.
Gravity Vehicle: The modified rules are posted here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SjaQe89RDhJCoqYkqB6D8iDMh8YKO3xh/view
Experimental Design: The event has been redone and is now titled Experimental Data Analysis. We will design an experiment and answer questions on data analysis, procedures, and techniques. More detailed instructions are attached below.
Write It Do It: This event is also redone to be Write It CAD It. This is essentially the same as Write It Do It but has one participant reconstruct the object in computer-aided design (CAD) software. This year, the state will be using the website https://www.onshape.com/en/ where you should be able to create a free student account.
Both Wright Stuff and Ping Pong Parachute have been excluded from this year's competition due to the new format
Science Olympiad is a team based competition in which students are able to compete in rigorous scientific events. The 23 events offered at Science Olympiad tournaments vary from year to year, but always offer a selection from biology, earth science, chemistry, physics and technology. We will compete at a regional tournament in teams of 15 people against other schools.
