Effective 25 September 2026
Your training stays on your phone. Chalk has no user accounts and no servers. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and your data is never sold or shared. Data leaves your device only through the features you switch on, and every one of them is listed below.
Chalk is developed by Robin Mazanek, L. Svobody 1022/3, 693 01 Hustopeče, Czech Republic, the controller of any personal data this policy covers. Questions and requests: mazanekapps@gmail.com.
Your routines, workouts, sets and notes, your name and profile photo if you add them, and your settings. Everything sits in Chalk's private storage on this device, where other apps cannot read it. The developer never receives a copy.
If you connect Google Drive, Chalk asks Google for two things: your account's email address, shown so you know which account is connected, and access to a hidden app folder in your Drive (the drive.appdata scope). A copy of your notebook is uploaded there. Google stores it under Google's privacy policy; it does not appear among your Drive files, no other app can read it, and the developer has no access to it. Disconnect or delete the backup at any time in Profile → Google Drive. Chalk's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
If Android backup is on for your phone, Android may include Chalk's database and profile photo in your Google account's device backup. Google runs that backup, and you can turn it off in your phone's settings. Backup files and CSV exports you create in Chalk are saved only where you choose, and are yours to keep, move or delete.
If you turn on calendar sync and grant the permission, Chalk adds one event per finished workout to the calendar you pick. It reads only the list of your calendars, so you can pick one, and never reads your events.
During a workout, a notification shows the current exercise and rest timer, including on the lock screen. Your phone's notification settings control what is visible there.
You decide on first launch, when Chalk asks once whether to send crash reports. Nothing is sent unless you answer Yes; closing the question counts as no. You can change your answer anytime in Profile → Send crash reports. When on and Chalk crashes, a report goes to Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service that processes it on the developer's behalf. It contains the error and where in the code it happened, your device model, Android and app version, free memory and storage, and a random installation ID. It contains none of your workouts, notes, name, photo or email, and is not linked to your identity. Reports are used only to fix bugs and are kept for 90 days. Google may process them outside the EU under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Turning the switch off stops sending and deletes reports not yet sent.
No analytics, no advertising, no tracking across apps or websites. No access to your location, contacts, microphone or other health apps. Your data is not sold, not shared with third parties and not used for profiling or automated decisions.
Your training history can reveal information about your health. Chalk uses it only to show your progress to you, on this device and in the backups you choose to make.
Where EU or UK data protection law applies: Drive backup, calendar sync, crash reports and the training data you enter, which can relate to your health, are processed only because you choose to use them, on the basis of your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) and 9(2)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time by turning the feature off or deleting the data.
Your data stays until you delete it. Profile → Delete account erases everything on this device and, if connected, your Drive backup. Uninstalling Chalk removes the data on this device, but not your device backup or files you exported.
You have the right to access, correct, delete and export your data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to withdraw consent. Most of this you can do directly in the app: edit or delete entries, Export to CSV, Delete account. For anything else, write to mazanekapps@gmail.com. You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection authority; in the Czech Republic this is the Office for Personal Data Protection (uoou.gov.cz).
Chalk is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly process their data.
When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the new version is published here and in the app before it takes effect.
