Chalet Rose - your perfect home away from home in all seasons!
Beatenberg is a stunningly beautiful, sunny place to enjoy peace and quiet and pure mountain air, gorgeous lake and mountain views while taking advantage of the multitude of outdoor activities offered. It is the the perfect all-season resort destination. In summer, you can explore the 120 km of hiking paths in the immediate area of the village. In 2008, the panorama trail from Niederhorn (the mountain peak just above the village) through Gemmenalphorn to Waldegg was voted the most beautiful hiking trail in Switzerland*. In the center of the village (behind the tourist office) there is a children's outdoorplayground with huge jumping pad. Beside it, you can enjoy a 25-meter heated indoor pool (Hallenbad). In winter, there are two ski areas in the village - Hohwald and NIederhorn. The NIederhorn cable car can take you up to the panoramic walking trail in the summer!
A short drive away are beautiful walks along the shores of blue-green Lake Thun in the valley below Beatenberg, or its twin, the light turquoise Lake Brienz, just on the other side of Interlaken. Ferry-boat rides, cruises, private boat rental and paddle-boarding offer spectacular perspectives from the lakes. Swimming in the lakes is also possible. Across the valley are an additional 500 km of sign-posted hiking routes in the spectacular Jungfrau region at the foot of the 4000 meter giants: Eiger, Munch and Jungfrau. Many other outdoor adventure sports, such as mountain biking, hang-gliding and rafting, are readily available.
In winter, you can take advantage of the two family-friendly ski resorts in the village for downhill skiing (Hohwald and Niederhorn), or take one of the groomed ski trails for cross-country skiing. The Hohwald ski area has a Swiss ski school for children and adults and is an ideal place to learn to ski. It has beginner and intermediate pistes; the Niederhorn has intermediate and advanced runs. Free buses can shuttle you from one to the other. Sledding and ice-skating are also favorite winter activities. Skiers seeking more adventure can also drive in 45 minutes to the Jungfrau ski area, with over 200 km of additional pistes and the site of the Lauberhorn World Cup ski race held annually in January. The three principal ski areas there are: Grindelwald-First, Kleine Scheidegg-Mannlichen, and Murren-Schilthorn (home of the revolving restaurant Piz Gloria at the top of the lift, made famous as a location in the filming of the James Bond movie On Her Majesty's Secret Service!)
