Monthermé: Carrefour contact
Bogny sur meuse: Intermarché, Lidl, Aldi
Monthermé: Our favourite ''Le fournil du baraquin'', otheroption is Boulangerie Felzinger
Thilay: Boutaud Eric
Our favourite for its atmosphere, location, and unique menu: Tchar Saille. Call to book in advance and pay with cash only.
The local one: Café de Blossette, just up the hill from the chalet. Nothing fancy but nice local bistro with good beer and simple dishes.
Nice one in Thilay: La forge. Good restaurant, with classic french dishes.
Fun coffee/snack: Au pî de la Voye. Nice spot with fresh pies, coffee, cheese and some snacks. They also have art exposition and everything you see there is for sale. Many glasses, furnitures, books, toys etc.
Burger/local epicerie: Le mouton noir. Good local products, cheese, charcuterie, and a burger snack outside.
You can also go to Gedinne or Bohan in Belgium where you will find more restaurants, or Charleville Mezieres also has many good restaurants and is a nice city to spend an afternoon in.
You can bike on the voie verte which goes across the ardennes. It passes right in front of the chalet so it cannot be easier to hop on your bike and go for a ride along the semoy or meuse.
You can rent bikes at Le mouton noir if you want as well.
The semoy valley is of course well known among mountain bikers for its various technical trails.
You can find all official trails on the site of the local club.
If you need advice, do not hesitate to contact us. We have ridden all local trails and can definitely give you some tips.
If you want to make sure to plan your day safely, check the map here on a laptop or tablet, select the date, click on the area you want to go to (it will be highlighted in yellow) and see on the left what the hunting dates are for this area.
There are countless hikes that you can start directly from the chalet.
You can walk to Roc la tour for example. It is about 45 min walk, going towards café blossette et taking the hiking path left of the café (not directly next to it but about 15 min more to the left). From there it is more or less straight up towards Roc la tour.
You can also walk to the old career buildings above Tournavaux. They are now in ruins in the middle of the forest which gives this place a special atmosphere.
Another nice walk, especially with the dog is to go to Haulmé via the centre of Tournavaux. Once in Haulmé go to the church and take the patch left behind the church towards the old washing place. There take the path right going down and follow it back to Tournavaux.
These are just a few we like to do regularly. But on any good hiking app (Wikiloc, Komoot...) you can find many other hikes.
Nice mediaval city in a start shape
The closest big city to our chalet. Nice for a day in the city.
Mediaval city with the castle from where the crusades started.
