Pictured is my son proudly poised by a fire-rated door we replaced 2021. John was selling his home and needed a painter to freshen the interior my focus during inspection set me apart. As I worked he shared his motivation to move: he chose to leverage top-career positions for more time with his children in a community that reflected family values.
Since our start I have met wonderful customers. Our target is to capture local elderly/ disabled-those our services impact their daily quality of life. Chad Leslie and Sons Handyman Services wish to be the go-to handyman. We purposefully narrow our offerings to continue to comply with the California $500 limit for non-licensed handyman projects (cost and materials) out of respect for our laws. We trust that the Lord will navigate this even though the dollar amount is an outdated limit. Who knows, I may be inspired to contact our lawmakers (not holding my breath). We're honing the services we do best and have tools for. We are ever aware of the bottom line of operational expenses and time required to sustain business needs.
Thanks for your interest. I would love our story to encourage my reader to take the risk and follow God for your journey. Life is short. I'm inspired too by what God has accomplished with our small business.
My son joined the Vacaville Police Cadets, a program that recruits young men and women to help at community events and train in policing activities. My son helps the business as needed; but becoming a police officer and working in retail are his current ambitions. Chad Leslie and Sons Handyman Service was his first job; I didn't foresee his interest being short-lived.
The passion to serving the needs of my customers in this community continues to get me out of bed in the morning. I continue to make commitments and connections that I soar in my heart for: We have several business-owners who text me as their maintenance go-to. The volume of requests create booking out 3 weeks on average this summer. In three years the business revolves around customers; I have the privilege of trust with peoples homes; around 4 clients have passed away and their family members continue to use me for the home hearing my reputation. I have broadened my understanding of products for solutions to common problems; what to use as well as who to refer clients to for issues out of my scope of expertise; or tool limitation. I count seven men I could call and get a response from in a relatively short amount of time. Their expertise span the trades from general contacting; to roofing; to plumbing.
Recently, I looked at a client after a tree root created a gusher and admitted that I could do the job; but I knew a guy who would likely get the job done faster than I could. It pained me inside to know I was giving up work; but I'm learning to simply speak the truth and not worry about the consequences. As it happened the yard man came the same-day while I was still doing other items for the customer. I saw him perform the task and was right; and what was best...my customer was pleased.
Customer service continues to be my motivation. I share my God-given talents; which is what he asks; I bear the rewards both now and forever when my heart is acting from a clear concience and the joy in giving my gift. Thank you for being a part and reading my adventure. May there be more articles in this series to share.
