Welcome Back!
I hope that all our families had a safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer break and had the opportunity to spend some quality time together. It was wonderful to welcome all of the children back into school on Wednesday, and I have been delighted to see how positively they have all started the new school year. Over the next week or so, we are also looking forward to welcoming our new Reception and Nursery children and their families into our school communities. As always, the term ahead will be packed with exciting and stimulating learning opportunities and experiences, and our staff are very much looking forward to supporting the children they work with and sharing in the immense pride they will feel as they make progress and celebrate their achievements. This half term, I will be spending the beginning of each week at Brunswick Park and the end of the week at Church Hill, and I am looking forward to seeing and chatting with families in the playground at both schools. I am incredibly excited about the term ahead and all that this school year will bring, and I am particularly looking forward to spending as much time as possible engaging with and enjoying the company of the children.

Attendance and Punctuality
As we begin the new school year, we would like to remind families that, in line with advice from our Local Authority Education Welfare Officer, we will be monitoring attendance and punctuality very closely throughout the year.
Please take a few moments to read the information included in this newsletter, which highlights the significant impact that lateness and absence can have on children's progress, attainment and overall wellbeing. Every lesson counts, and even small amounts of lost learning time can quickly add up over the course of a school year.
We would also like to remind families that, unless there are exceptional circumstances, schools are unable to authorise leave of absence during term time. Requests for holidays or other leave during term time will not normally be authorised and, where unauthorised absences occur, families may receive a Penalty Notice in line with Local Authority procedures.
We understand that there are occasions when children are genuinely unwell or exceptional circumstances arise, and we appreciate your support in ensuring that your child attends school every day whenever possible and arrives on time, ready to learn.
Thank you for your continued support and commitment to your child's education. By working together, we can ensure that every child has the best possible opportunity to succeed.
We hope you have all enjoyed the start of the autumn term and are now looking ahead to an exciting year. The children have settled into their new classes and are building positive relationships with their new adults.
Inclusion at CHBP is extremely important to us. Inclusion is removing all barriers to allow all children to have access to the same opportunities and experiences. These barriers could include attendance, SEND, medical needs, EAL, change in family dynamics or even sleep – the list is endless!
In this section of our newsletter we are hoping to share snippets of advice, sharing events taking place across school linked to inclusion or the sharing of expert knowledge through events advertised by the local authority.
Thank you to all our families who have arrived back at school on time, this provides children with a smooth start to the day. Ensuring that your school term routines are back up and running is vital to ensuring calm mornings and good school attendance. Remember to pack your water bottle, reading book, reading record, healthy snack and lunch each day.
In the newsletter this week you will find several advertising for upcoming events hosted by BELS – Barnet Education and Learning Service. You will find information on the Autumn 2026 Mini-0CPAC and BACPAC training and support programme for parents/carers of children with a diagnosis of Autism and a advert for a free community event at Oakleigh Community Church on Wednesday 9th September 9.30am – 12pm to meet an array of local health and wellbeing organisations offering free advice, support and services to help you and your family to thrive.
Hopefully you have also received via email a copy of the Barnet Children’s Therapies Universal Training Menu for the Autumn Term organised by Whittington Health NHS. Check out the online training videos and online training sessions shared on this document. A large range of topics are covered from support with toileting, sleep, handwriting skills, exploring food, developing vocabulary, supporting speech sound difficulties.
Following the achievement of our Bronze Healthy Schools Award and as we continue working towards Silver, alongside our commitment as an allergy-aware school and the introduction of Benedict’s Law this school year, we would like to remind families that:
Snacks and packed lunches should be healthy and must not contain nuts or sesame.
Children must not share food with friends in school, helping us to keep all children safe.
Sweets will no longer be handed out in school to celebrate birthdays. Children are, of course, welcome to celebrate and share sweets with friends outside the school grounds.
Instead, families are encouraged to choose from the non-food and healthier celebration ideas such as stickers, small stationery items, fruit, dried fruit or plain popcorn.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep our school community safe, healthy and inclusive for everyone.
Reminder: Lunch Arrangements
A polite reminder that the lunch choice made at the beginning of each half term must remain in place for the duration of that half term.
Unfortunately, it is not possible for children to switch between packed lunches and school dinners more frequently than this. Our catering provider orders food for the entire half term based on the choices submitted at the start of the term. If children change between packed lunches and school dinners more frequently, it can result in either significant food waste or insufficient food being available for those who have ordered a school meal.
For this reason, we kindly ask parents and carers to carefully consider their child's lunch arrangement before the start of each half term, as changes cannot be accommodated once the half term has begun.
Please do not ask the school office to alter your child's lunch choice during the half term, as staff will unfortunately have to decline these requests. We appreciate that this may be disappointing, but adhering to this policy helps ensure the catering service runs fairly and efficiently for all pupils and avoids placing office staff in the difficult position of having to refuse requests.
Thank you for your understanding, cooperation and continued support.
