Sports Day

Our CH Sports Day will take place this Monday 6th July 2026.

As with last year, the children will take part in a carousel of different sporting activities, followed by sprint races and shuttle relays. Throughout each activity, children will earn points for their House Teams in the battle to win this year's Sports Day trophies.

Provided the weather forecast remains as currently predicted, the event will go ahead as planned. However, due to the high temperatures and the very limited shade available on the playground, we have made the difficult decision not to hold our traditional lunchtime picnic this year. Instead, children will eat their lunch in school as normal.

To help the day run smoothly, please take note of the following arrangements:

KS1
After dropping your child off at 8:50am, families are asked to wait outside the school until the double gates reopen at 9:20am. You can then make your way to the designated spectator areas to watch the morning activities. At the end of the session, all visitors will be asked to leave the school site.

KS2
Parents and carers of KS2 pupils are invited back onto the school site from 12:55pm for the afternoon activities. Once these have concluded, children will return to their classrooms before being dismissed as usual at 3:20pm.

These arrangements will help ensure the day is safe, enjoyable and well organised for everyone.

Warm Weather Update

Although the weather is forecast to remain warm next week, current forecasts do not indicate a return to the extreme temperatures experienced last week. As a result, there are currently no plans for the school day to finish early on any day next week.

We will continue to monitor the weather forecast closely and will inform families immediately if the situation changes and any adjustments need to be made.

As temperatures are still expected to remain in the 20s, children are welcome to continue attending school in their PE kits if they feel more comfortable dressed in this way.

Please ensure your child arrives at school wearing a sun hat. A cap or wide-brimmed hat is ideal and will help provide protection during outdoor activities throughout the day. Please can all sun hats be labelled with your child's name, so that it is easy to return to your child if it gets lost.

We also ask that sun cream is applied before children leave for school in the morning. As staff are unable to apply sun cream for children, it is important that this is done at home as part of your morning routine on sunny days.

Children should also bring a refillable water bottle each day so they can stay hydrated, especially during periods of hot weather. We will continue to encourage regular water breaks and ensure children have access to shade wherever possible.

Sense is a registered charity who believe that everyone should have the opportunity to connect with others and be included in the world. We have been extremely lucky in securing a space on their outreach 'Connect and Play' project.

This week we finished exploring the children's classic 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. Everyone had a fabulous time exploring a range of minibeasts in our waterplay, took turns to feed the caterpillar his food, made our own paintings of the caterpillar and explored the use of playdough to represent the amounts of food he ate each day. A new story will be shared next week.

Chatter Matters - Wimbledon Commentary Challenge

With Wimbledon underway, why not have a go at being a tennis commentator at home?

Choose a short sporting moment on television, a family game in the garden, or even a rally with a balloon. Take turns to describe what is happening as if you are live on TV. Try to use clear voices, interesting vocabulary and encouraging language.

You could use phrases such as: “What a fantastic shot!”, “They are working really hard,” or “I think the next move might be…”

Afterwards, ask each other:

What made the commentary exciting?
Which words helped us picture what was happening?
How did we make sure everyone had a turn to speak?

This activity helps children practise speaking clearly, listening carefully and building confidence in sharing their ideas.

Jo-Jo Ward is raising money for Cancer Research UK

Year 5's Trip to Bhaktivedanta Manor

On Wednesday, Year 5 were incredibly lucky to visit the Hindu Temple – and WOW, what an unforgettable day it was! As soon as we arrived, the fun began. We enjoyed a fantastic range of activities, including a cart ride, feeding and stroking some adorable cows, dressing up in beautiful traditional clothing, having our faces painted and, of course, enjoyed a delicious lunch. One of my favourite moments was watching the whole of Year 5 raise their cups of apple juice for a big cheers to the Hindu Temple. It was such a lovely memory and brought lots of smiles!

Throughout the day, the children represented themselves, Year 5 and Church Hill brilliantly. Their excellent manners, enthusiasm and respect made all of the adults incredibly proud. There was so much laughter, so many smiles and plenty of unforgettable moments. It really was a special day that we'll all remember for a long time.
