Just One Tree Day
We’re delighted to be taking part in Just One Tree Day for the fourth year running!
Thanks to everyone’s support over the past three years, we have already helped to plant an incredible 692 trees. Our entire school’s forest will now remove approximately 213.14 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere over the next 25 years! What an amazing impact we are making together.
On Friday 16th October, we’re asking everyone to wear green for £1.
Every £1 donated will represent one tree being planted, helping to restore forests, support communities and make a positive difference to our planet.
So, dig out your favourite green outfit, bring in your £1 and join us in growing our tree total!
Let’s see how many more trees we can plant together! 🌳💚
Just a reminder that BICS runs a number of virtual workshops. These workshops aim to increase your knowledge of common wellbeing and mental health difficulties faced by children and young people. They also aim to provide you with strategies to assist you in supporting your young person.
On Wednesday 14th October 12:00 – 13:30 and Wednesday 2tst October 12.00 – 13.30pm BICS are running a two part workshop on ‘Understanding and Managing Anxiety’.
The two virtual mental health workshops aim to increase your knowledge on anxiety and provide you with some skills and strategies to assist your young person in coping with their anxiety.
This workshop is aimed at parents and carers of children and young people, but professionals or anyone working with children and young people are also welcome to attend.
Part 1 will focus on: what anxiety is, how anxiety can develop, and what maintains anxiety.
Part 2 will build upon this, specifically looking at: understanding anxious thoughts and behaviours, strategies to challenge anxious thoughts and behaviours, signposting, and helpful other resources.
There will be opportunities throughout the workshop for reflection and discussion.
Please ensure you sign up for both parts using the following link:

This term, our school value is Friendship. Being a good friend is about much more than playing together. It involves listening, sharing, showing kindness, including others and supporting people when they need us.
Why not take some time this week to talk to your child about what friendship means to them?
Ask them:
What makes someone a good friend?
How can we show someone that we care about them?
How might someone feel if they are left out?
What could you do if you noticed someone was lonely?
Can you be friends with someone who has different interests to you?
Remember, great conversations don't have to happen around the dinner table. A chat in the car, on the walk to school or while getting ready for bed can provide a wonderful opportunity to develop children's speaking, listening and vocabulary skills.
School Council Elections
Churchill School held its School Council Elections today; it was a great day with all the children taking part in the democratic process beautifully. Well done to all the children who put themselves forward, we are proud of you all, it is a brave thing to do. Congratulations to our new School Council Elect, we are looking forward to achieving great things together this coming year. There will be a celebratory assembly on Thursday 22nd October with The Mayor of Barnet in attendance who will present the new councillors with their badges. More details of this will follow closer to the date.

Hello Yellow
💛On Friday 9th October, we will be taking part in Hello Yellow, an annual campaign run by YoungMinds to show our support for young people’s mental health.
ALL of the children of Church Hill School will be given their very own Daffodil bulb to plant in the courtyard area, so we can all enjoy them saying HELLO and being beautifully YELLOW in the Spring. 🌼
We would like to invite children to wear something yellow to school and kindly ask families to make a £1 donation to support this important cause.
Please make your donation through SchoolMoney.
Thank you for helping us spread a little sunshine and show young people that they are not alone. 💛
On Thursday Mia from Food Bank Aid came into both Brunswick Park and Churchill School to tell us all about the work our local food bank does. She has teamed up with Year 4, who have all been reading ‘The great food bank heist’ this half term, so this is a cause close to their hearts. The year 4 classes in both schools are going to be asking for donations so we can all support this wonderful charity and help others. There will be collection points in front of the year 4 classrooms and in front reception.
They ask that you please donate only dry store goods, such as: cereal, rice, pasta, tin foods, long life milk. The collection point will close on the 16th October, so that we can deliver before half term.
Thank you in advance for any donations you can give.
