Exploring Coastal Biodiversity: Enjoy a docent led hike through the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve. Habitats include open water, mudflats, salt marsh, coastal dunes, seabird nesting islands, riparian, and freshwater marsh. Its earliest human use was by the local Acjachemen and Tongva tribes. In 1899 the natural inlet to the ocean was dammed, which restricted the saltwater. In 2002 the dam was removed and Bolsa Chica was restored to its natural state as an estuary. Following the hike, explore the Bolsa Chica Conservancy Interpretive Center or additional hikes through the rich coastal biodiversity.
