How we started and where we're going
The history of CGL started in the summer of 2021 when four cousins started a brand new Brawl Stars club; the original name stood for Cousin's Gaming League. The original goal was not to be competitive: it was just an idea to keep the four of them together. They all changed their names and joined the club. They opened up the club and very shortly after, a good friend by the name of MirageMeadow wanted to join the club. He was let in and was made a vice president.
From then on, there wasn't much done with the club. Punisher and Star slowly stopped playing the game consistently and people started joining CGL. With no real direction to go, CGL felt dead. Club league was announced and very soon the active members realized that they didn’t have the apt tools to compete in club league. After a lot of talking and deciding, Shadow, Mirage and Bomb all decided to leave CGL and simply use it as a storage club for their minis. They were lost and looking for a competitive club. Searching and looking, they ended up talking with Firesky, another one of the cousins. She had been in a club called the Rebels this entire time. She invited them to the Rebels and they were competitive and excelling in club league. Here is where they met Leb097. He was a vice president of the club at the time, but was essentially the president because of a lack of primary leadership in the club.
They stayed in the Rebels for a good six months or so. They joined its discord server and became very engaged with the community. However, there was one problem. The club was dead. Although the players there were great and had even hit masters club league, the social aspect was dead. This was a pressing issue for all of them, especially Leb, who had been in the club for over two years before any other executives had even heard about it. Leb tried getting in touch with Rebels leadership, but the constant answer was complacency. In the meantime, CGL was still a dead club in the competitive sense. However, someone joined who would help immensely with the recovery process. Entering the scene is Samsonite. He was a very active player who joined CGL and even changed his name. He liked CGL initially but ended up joining the Rebels as well due to CGL's obvious inactivity.
So now there was a community. They wanted to grow it, but the leadership of Rebels was still content with mediocrity. So a plan was devised. The plan was to revamp CGL. This would require time and energy, but the core was committed to grow a club up from nothing to a space of competition and social thriving. The plan was to rank up in club league to a respectable level. During that stage, they would kick inactive members and slowly raise the trophy requirement. Once there was a decent amount of quality members, the core traveled over to CGL. Again, they slowly raised the trophy requirement and gained a more competitive atmosphere around the club. Mirage decided that if they wanted to match what the Rebels once was in social and competitive aspects, they would need a discord server. He went to work and after a couple days of designing, he made the very server that's linked here. However, there was a problem. The trophy requirement had been raised to 35k at this point. This was great for the competitive scene, but there were people who were unsatisfied. As Bomb grew his YouTube channel, there were players who wanted to be associated with him. Not all of these players were at 35k though. There was one simple solution. A new club needed to be made. Lil CGL was created under the idea of a casual social experience. This was achieved and there was only growth from there.
In April of 2024, out of pretty much nowhere, we received a request for a merge. An organization called Swarm who were mainly a Clash Royale and Clash of Clans organization wanted to expand to Brawl Stars, and they needed someone to do it with them. They reached out, and we at CGL did not take this quickly. This was a thinking process of over 2 weeks. Eventually, Swarm wasn't thrilled that our mods are Christians, so they decided to rescind their offer, thus ending the chance of merging with Swarm. Nothing changed on the in-game side, but the discord was in shambles, at least on the mod side.
On April 20, 2024, they chose to add a new layer to the family. They expanded to Clash Royale and made a CGL clan there. At this time, it was pretty casual with no requirements. It remains to be seen whether there will be a potential leader for it to make it competitive, but we officially expanded to another game. On May 12, 2024, they continued their expansion into more games by making a Hay Day neighborhood and even started a Clash of Clans clan. CGL at this point is thriving, with new members and clans popping up left and right.
Over the rest of the summer and fall, the mod team was quietly hard at work exploring the idea of some kind of server-wide event to unite the server for the Christmas season. After months of planning, strategizing, play-testing, experimenting, and exploring ideas, the mod team had its plan. The Christmas CGL event of 2024 was scheduled to start on December 5th, 2024. It involved completing daily quests, participating in server events, such as Hide and Seek, Bot Runner, Death by AI, and more. We also tracked mega tree wins, a mode specific for 2024 Brawlidays, as well as Ranked mode during the season. And it all culminated in a massive Gun Game event on December 21st, 2024. The winner of the entire event was Santrad and he won the coveted Brawl Pass Plus. On December 28th, 2024, the CGL family made a difficult decision. They realized the Casual CGL club wasn't doing what they'd liked it to and so decided to scrap it and make way for a new, more competitive club, CGL Rangers. This club would be the newest club and therefore the 4th competitive club in the CGL club family. As for Casual CGL, that was left for storage of mini accounts. All this happened on the mod side with no word to the public until the announcement.
On April 1st, 2025, CGL made a huge brand shift. In order to seek a more recognizable brand as well as a better and cooler logo, we decided to switch to a new, cooler name: Shadow Vortex Gaming. We knew we would receive initial backlash, but that this would be the best way to establish ourselves as great April Fools' Day pranksters. The very next day, April 2nd, we switched back to CGL and we have no intentions of rebranding at any point.
We have had an illustrious past with a bunch of events and fun times. Now, it's your turn. You can make the future and be a part of this storyline and etch your name in CGL history forever.
