Madrid is popular in May, so please book your accommodation asap. To make sure that you can easily get to the conference site we recommend to book a hotel/hostel/apartment etc. with an easy access to Line 6 of Madrid metro anywhere between Príncipe Pio and Nuevos Ministerios.
For budget accommodation we recommend Colegio Mayor Argentino, which is a student residence with full board (whether you take it or not, you have to pay it, but the prices are very reasonable) and it's a short bus ride to the conference venue. Reservations can be done by email: administracion@cmanslujan.com. Mention that your reservation is for attending the Colloquium on Generative Grammar.
Attendants with ampler budgets can try Hotel Acta Madfor.
Lunch options are limited on campus.
There are two typical university cafeterias, one in the building next door, another one within 5 min walk. Both have a daily fixed menu which includes 1st and 2nd course, dessert, bread and coffee. The menu is different every day, but there is always salad and usually a vegetarian main as well.
We arrange for 'organized' lunch (full menu) at the Faculty of Education (building next door to the conference venue) which can be paid in advance following the registration link. Half-menu options (only 1st course or only 2nd course) will also be available, but cannot be pre-paid.
UPDATE! WE HAVE BEEN GUARANTEED VEGETARIAN OPTIONS FOR LUNCH
Conference dinner will take place at Bazaar on the 8th of May at 20:30.
Here you can find the menu in Spanish and here is our rudimentary translation of the menu into English.
If you want to attend the conference dinner you should pay in advance following the Registration link.
To use public transport in Madrid you will need to buy a Multicard (like on the image on the left) and charge trips onto it. The card costs 2.5€, a single trip (metro, bus, etc.) is 1.5-2€ and a 10-trip ticket is currently 8.5€. For both types of ticket an airport supplement of 3€ is required to get in/out of the airport by metro. More information about the different types of tickets and prices can be found here. NOTE: you pay for every ride you take, transfers count as separate rides.
Taxis are quite affordable as well. If you take a taxi to/from the airport, you pay a flat fee of 33€, if your origin/destination is within the M30 (the inner ring road of Madrid), which is the case for most of the city.
